What is The Commonwealth Club?
California is supposed to be sunny, but it was decidedly otherwise as Charlie, Aidan and Stuart hurtled along the US 101-S towards Cupertino last March. It was raining. Torrentially. What should have been a simple one hour journey turned – as the rain slowed the traffic and the shocked West Coasters wondered what was happening to their usually balmy climes – into an hour forty five. And then, to compound it all, Charlie turned off the freeway a few stops too early. Twice. In doing so he treated the trio to the chalk and cheese delights of both Redwood City and Stanford College. At least no-one could complain that the route wasn’t scenic.
But here is the thing: the conversation was so easy and interesting and ever-so-slightly.. colonial that it didn’t matter. It could have been three hours, or four, and it would still have been worth the trip and the price of the gas. An idea was born. A podcast. It’s name would be The Commonwealth Club. It would feature three twenty-something guys from various parts of the non-American English speaking world who share an interest in technology, video and design which ranges from the accessible to the downright nerdy. They would have a chat every two weeks and put it up on the internet for all to share.
